Cultivating Beauty in the Everyday

Winter Blues & Summer Dreams

I have a confession to make.

Winter has me dreaming of living soil, warm breezes, and fresh tomatoes. I could weep simply thinking about summer. In an effort to find comfort I recently ordered seeds and definitely went overboard. I am now waiting on 25 pounds of seed potatoes to arrive in March/April.

That is a lot of spuds.

I’ve never grown a potato in my life.

I’ve also never grown cabbages, carrots, or beets. But those are also on route to my house.

All these new things will make a lovely addition to the rest of the garden. Or at least in my daydreams they will. I guess you will have to stick around and find out what actually happens later this summer.

It’s safe to say my cabin fever has rolled in with the icy bite of below zero wind. I have been going nuts with boredom and loneliness, planning my summer garden is like a light at the end of a tunnel. It’s tough being 23 and married with a toddler. It’s tough living 45 minutes from civilization. It’s tough being a stay-at-home mom longing for a friend. Is it just me, or does no one hang out in real life anymore? If they do, where can I find them?

Anyways, I am ready for sunshine again. It has been a week of temperatures ranging from -40 to 1 degree Fahrenheit. Last night it was -28 degrees. When it hurts to breathe outside air, I don’t care what number is on the thermometer, that is COLD.

I can’t wait to plant every single ounce of those 25 pounds of potatoes.

Stay cozy my friends. Winter will not last forever.

Love, Myah
